The application for the issuance of a certificate of citizenship can only be made in person (or by the legal representative in the case of underage persons). The applicant must identify him/herself with a photo identification.
Fee
42.70 EUR (for the federal fee and administrative charge)
The first issuance of a certificate of citizenship on the grounds of the birth of a child is free of charge up until the second birthday. Documents for which a fee has not yet been charged (e.g. birth or marriage certificates) must be charged for in addition.
Documents
In principle, the following documents would be required:
For children born in wedlock or legitimised children:
- Birth certificate of the child
- Marriage certificate of the parents
- Certificate of citizenship of the parents
For children born out of wedlock:
- Birth certificate of the child
- Birth certificate of the mother
- Certificate of citizenship of the mother
Re-issuance due to a name change following marriage:
- Birth certificate
- Marriage certificate
- Certificate of citizenship issued with the previous surname
- Any marriage certificates from previous marriages
- Certificate of citizenship of the spouse

In cases of issuance of certificate of citizenship on other grounds (e.g. loss of certificate of citizenship, name change following re-adoption of a former surname etc.), a visit in person or telephone discussion regarding the required documents would be recommended.
